In addition, participants must have at least 3 months of relevant and current work experience in aged care or disability support which can be verified by their current employer or references from previous employment.
We are currently only accepting enrolments for this course from people currently working in residential aged care or group residential disability support settings who are able to undertake the placement component of this course in their own workplace (further details below). We regret, for the time being, we are unable to accept enrolments from students working in-home care settings.
All participants must attend a Pre-Training Review which includes an interview and a language, literacy and numeracy assessment to determine eligibility to enrol in the course.
All participants must have a current National Police check clear of any disclosures to undertake this course.
Theory -Upon successful enrolment, participants will be sent a comprehensive workbook which includes self-directed learning activities that must be completed prior to attending the practical training.
Participants will also receive a link to our online campus where you can access further resources and the theory assessment. Approximately 25 hours of self-directed learning will be required in order to successfully complete the self-directed learning activities and theory assessment.
The theory assessment is due no later than 7 days after the practical training.
Practical workshop –Participants must attend a 2-day practical training workshop. This involves a review of the knowledge attained during your self-directed learning and a series of practical activities such as preparation of different forms of medication, using medication documentation and mock medication rounds. A practical simulation assessment is undertaken during this workshop.
Participants must complete a four-hour work placement where they will assist clients with medication administration.
Due to current COVID-19 related restrictions on accessing aged care and disability support workplaces, only participants who can undertake placement in their own workplace are able to enrol in this course at present. The workplace must have at least 5 clients who take at least 5 types of medications via oral, topical or inhaled routes of administration.
During your work placement, you will be fully supervised by a staff member as well as an EmployEase trainer and assessor who is a Registered or Enrolled Nurse.
If a participant is not successful at their first placement attempt, one further attempt is permitted. A $100 re-booking fee will be payable.
Work placement must be completed no later than 30 days after attendance at the practical training workshop. All components of the course are compulsory and must be completed to gain a Statement of Attainment.
