New to Remote Registered Nurses | Top End NT West Placements

Healthcare Australia (HCA) is seeking Registered Nurses ready to step into Remote Area Nursing through a supported New to Remote (NTR) pathway in the West Katherine region of the Northern Territory.

These placements suit strong Emergency, Acute, or Primary Health Care nurses who are clinically confident, adaptable, and motivated to build experience in remote health. You’ll be supported with a paid 2-day orientation, clear scope expectations and ongoing guidance from both the local clinical team and a dedicated Remote consultant experienced in supporting nurses new to remote work.

You’ll work in small, nurse-led remote clinics with minimal on-site resources, requiring clinical autonomy, sound decision-making, and a hands-on approach while delivering primary health care and emergency response in culturally diverse communities.

New to Remote Pathway Registered nurses typically have:

  • 3+ years’ experience in ED, Acute and/or PHC
  • Exposure to small regional, rural or nurse-led environments
  • A flexible, hands-on approach to clinic life
  • Motivation to continue upskilling for a remote career
  • Some supporting professional development and certifications 

Remote nursing offers broad clinical exposure, professional growth, and meaningful impact.

Essential Criteria

  • RN with minimum 3 years’ experience (ED / Acute / PHC in small Regional, rural facility and/or nurse-led experience)
  • Current AHPRA registration
  • Advanced Life Support (ALS)
  • Confidence in emergency response and resuscitation
  • Ability to obtain an NT Working with Children Check
  • Current resume and two recent clinical references
  • Availability for minimum 6-week placements
  • Highly Desirable: Triage experience, Suturing skills (or willingness to upskill) Additional remote-specific certifications can be supported as part of the pathway.

Pay Guide for these Roles:
As a guide, Year 1 New to Remote nurses typically earn mid-$5k per fortnight, depending on roster and on-call. Exact rates and allowances are discussed directly and aligned to your experience and placement.
