Policy Writer

Healthcare Australia (HCA) is a major provider of healthcare services across Australia, including allied health, primary care, recruitment, NDIS, care services, and training.   

In December 2024, we began providing health, mental health, and wellbeing services across the onshore Immigration Detention network. Our team of nurses, general practitioners, and allied health professionals offer a range of healthcare services, including health assessments, chronic disease management, health promotion, wound management, immunizations, and other primary health interventions.  HCA also launched a 24/7 Virtual Care Centre (VCC), offering remote healthcare through telehealth and video consultations to enhance onsite care for detainees

We are seeking an experienced Policy Writer to join our Clinical Governance team. This role provides vital support to the development, review, and implementation of clinical policies and procedures. You will work alongside our existing Policy Writers to manage a growing policy portfolio, ensuring timely and high-quality policy outputs.

This is a hands-on role for someone who can hit the ground running, bring strong policy expertise, and balance independence with effective collaboration.

Ideally full-time for 12 months, with the option for part-time arrangements.

Day to day!

  • Develop, draft, and review clinical policies and procedures in alignment with organisational priorities and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct research and analysis of health policies, legislation, and clinical standards to inform policy recommendations.
  • Support stakeholder engagement activities, including liaising with clinicians, leadership, and external agencies.
  • Monitor emerging trends and legislative developments in health policy to ensure organisational compliance and strategic alignment.
  • Maintain accurate records of policy development and provide reports to leadership as required.
  • Manage multiple policy projects simultaneously, ensuring timely delivery of outcomes.​

Lets talk about you!

The ideal candidate will have experience in both policy development and review, preferably within healthcare or clinical governance. They can manage multiple policies and deadlines independently while working effectively in a team. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, with the ability to translate complex standards and legislation into clear policy. Prior clinical experience is desirable but not required. Proficiency in Microsoft Office is expected.

Have 2–3 years’ experience in health policy, advocacy, or clinical governance, supported by a bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Health Administration, or a related field. Experience in stakeholder engagement is preferred.
