Registered Nurse – AOD

Healthcare Australia (HCA) is a major provider of healthcare services across Australia, including allied health, primary care, recruitment, NDIS, care services, and training.   

In December 2024, we began providing health, mental health, and wellbeing services across the onshore Immigration Detention network. Our team of nurses, general practitioners, and allied health professionals offer a range of healthcare services, including health assessments, chronic disease management, health promotion, wound management, immunizations, and other primary health interventions.  HCA also launched a 24/7 Virtual Care Centre (VCC), offering remote healthcare through telehealth and video consultations to enhance onsite care for detainees.

Healthcare Australia is seeking an experienced Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Registered Nurse to join our Primary Health Services team within a detention environment. This rewarding role focuses on delivering comprehensive, evidence-based primary healthcare that supports detainees experiencing addiction and substance-related health challenges.

Working as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary healthcare team, you’ll play a key role in improving health outcomes through holistic assessments, coordinated care planning, education, and referral management – always with a strong foundation in dignity, respect, and person-centred practice.

Employment Type: Full-time & Part-time

Work Days & Hours: Monday to Sunday – No night shifts!

  • AM: 8:00 am – 4:00 pm

How You’ll Make an Impact! 

  • Participate in the assessment, planning and implementation of care based on individual detainee AOD needs incorporating a holistic approach to primary health care service delivery.
  • Undertake a wide range of clinical duties including but not limited to AOD health assessments, care planning, medication administration, health promotion and education etc, ensuring care is evidence based and delivered using clinical guidelines and practice to underpin competency.
  • Work in collaboration with the primary health care team to ensure a multidisciplinary, coordinated and integrated approach to service delivery.
  • Undertake person centred nursing assessments, utilising a range screening and clinical assessment tools.

Let’s talk about you!

You’ll hold current AHPRA registration and relevant qualifications, with at least five years of clinical experience in Mental Health. A post-graduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing is essential, along with a strong commitment to person-centred care. You’ll be available to work across Monday to Sunday, and experience within a detention or correctional setting will be highly regarded.
