Course Overview

The CHC33021 – Certificate III in Individual Support equips you with the skills to provide person-centred care for older people at home, in the community, or in residential aged care, and for people living with disability.

You will learn to deliver physical, social, and emotional support, work collaboratively with nurses, healthcare workers, case managers, and NDIS providers, and follow COVID-safe infection control practices.

The course includes three weeks of work placement with industry partners, giving hands-on experience and preparing you for a career in aged care, disability support, or healthcare services.

Entry Requirements

Minimum age requirement: 18 years

Language, literacy, and numeracy proficiency and Digital Literacy
Computer literacy and access to relevant IT equipment

Prior to practical placement you will be required to provide evidence of:

  • A current National Police Check
  • Immunisation requirements: Covid and Current Flu vaccinations
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check
  • Working with Children Check

Pre-Training Review

To assist prospective students to determine whether a course is suitable and appropriate for the individual needs, we will assess all students’ language, literacy and numeracy and digital literacy by asking you to undertake an assessment prior to your enrolment. A course advisor will discuss the outcomes of the review and make recommendations about whether the course is suitable for you, and identify additional support where required.

Course Delivery

Duration: 8 Months

  • Live online classes delivered via Zoom, held twice a week from 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM (AEST)
  • Role play sessions run from 3:00 PM – 9:00 PM (AEST)
  • Two full-day practical sessions delivered face-to-face in campus
  • Includes a 120-hour mandatory practical placement in an aged care facility
  • Ongoing trainer support provided throughout the course
  • Designed to fit around work and personal commitments
  • Delivered by experienced industry professionals

Assessments

Assessment is conducted using a range of methods including written questioning, multiple choice, case studies, scenarios, research tasks, and practical demonstrations online (via Zoom) or face to face with a trainer or in the workplace.

Trainer-led assessments include various demonstrations and role plays delivered online (via Zoom) or face to face.

There is a 120-hour compulsory work placement component to this course, which is arranged by EmployEase and supported by a mentor. Work placement will be arranged in an aged care facility only after you have completed your supported learning. We aim to organise placements within 30 minutes of your home, however this may not always be possible. Students must be prepared to travel a reasonable distance for placement. Please note that placements cannot be undertaken in areas outside our standard delivery locations.

During the work placement period, students will also be required to complete a range of workplace tasks, which are assessed separately.

Materials and Equipment

As a portion of this course is delivered via Zoom and students are required to complete assessments using our online learning system, applicants must have:

  • Easy access to a computer with internet and MS word
  • Easy access to a document scanner or digital uploading resource
  • Basic computer skills (able to create and upload a file; attach a file to email)
  • Basic MS Word skills (able to create a word document)
