In December 2024, we began providing health, mental health, and wellbeing services across the onshore Immigration Detention network. Our team of nurses, general practitioners, and allied health professionals offer a range of healthcare services, including health assessments, chronic disease management, health promotion, wound management, immunizations, and other primary health interventions. HCA also launched a 24/7 Virtual Care Centre (VCC), offering remote healthcare through telehealth and video consultations to enhance onsite care for detainees
We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Virtual Intake Triage Registered Nurse (RN) – Mental Health to provide initial assessments, triage, and support for clients in need of mental health services. This role is fully virtual and focuses on ensuring clients receive timely, appropriate care while maintaining the highest standards of clinical practice.
This is a casual, fully virtual role.
Day to Day !
- Conduct virtual assessments to evaluate mental health needs, including risk assessment and urgent case identification.
- Prioritize cases based on acuity and coordinate with the Mental Health Team Leader and care team for timely intervention.
- Document client interactions accurately in electronic health records.
- Develop care plans and refer clients to internal and external mental health resources.
- Provide mental health education, self-care guidance, and emotional support during the triage process.
- Collaborate with psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care.
- Monitor client progress, maintain compliance with privacy and health regulations, and contribute to service evaluation and reporting.
Lets talk about you!
Must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing with a postgraduate qualification in Mental Health Nursing, current AHPRA registration without restrictions, and a minimum of five years’ clinical experience – including mental health nursing with intake, triage, or crisis intervention; experience in immigration detention or similar settings is highly desirable. Candidates should be proficient with telehealth platforms and electronic health record systems, have strong communication and interpersonal skills for managing sensitive conversations, and be able to work independently and collaboratively in a virtual care setting while managing multiple cases effectively.
