About the Role: We are seeking an experienced and dynamic Nurse Unit Manager / Clinical Manager / Clinical Nurse Manager to join our Clinical Services team.

This is a key leadership role within the hospital, responsible for the effective management of human, financial and material resources within the department.

You will play a critical role in driving clinical excellence, leading high-performing teams, and ensuring the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care aligned with best practice and legislative requirements. Working closely with the Executive team, you will contribute to strategic planning, service improvement, and operational performance across the hospital.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage day-to-day operations of the clinical unit
  • Drive a culture of clinical excellence and continuous improvement
  • Oversee workforce planning, rostering, and resource allocation
  • Manage departmental budgets, consumables, and equipment (including CAPEX)
  • Monitor casemix, patient flow, and length of stay to optimise outcomes and efficiency
  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and regulatory standards
  • Lead quality improvement initiatives and apply evidence-based practice
  • Manage patient feedback and complaints in a professional and timely manner
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and support organisational objectives

Essential Criteria:

  • Current registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia (AHPRA)
  • Extensive clinical experience within mental health
  • Proven leadership and management experience
  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage financial, human, and material resources
  • Experience in quality improvement and applying research to practice

Desirable:

  • Postgraduate qualification in Mental Health
  • Previous experience in a Nurse Unit Manager or similar leadership role
  • Tertiary qualification in management (or working towards)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Excel
