Healthcare Australia (HCA) is a major provider of healthcare services across Australia, including allied health, primary care, recruitment, NDIS, care services, and training.
In December 2024, we commenced providing health, mental health and wellbeing services across the onshore Immigration Detention network. Our team, which includes nurses, general practitioners, and allied health professionals, offer a wide range of healthcare services to detainees, including but not limited to health assessments, chronic disease management, health promotion and targeted population health education, medication, wound management, immunisation, and other primary health clinical interventions. HCA also introduced a Virtual Care Centre (VCC), a 24/7 service that provides remote healthcare through telehealth and video consultations, helping to enhance onsite care for detainees.
We are seeking a motivated and passionate Policy & Advocacy Officer to join our team and support the development of evidence-based health policy initiatives that drive meaningful outcomes across the healthcare sector.
In this role, you will conduct research and analysis of health policies and legislation, support advocacy initiatives, coordinate projects, and engage with a broad range of stakeholders including government agencies, community organisations, and healthcare partners.

Day to day!
- Conduct research and analysis of health policy, legislation, and regulatory developments
- Prepare policy papers, reports, recommendations, and briefing documents
- Monitor emerging trends and issues across healthcare and public health sectors
- Support evidence-based policy development and organisational strategy
- Assist with advocacy initiatives and policy influence strategies
- Coordinate engagement activities including meetings with policymakers and stakeholders
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government agencies, advocacy groups, and community partners
- Support the planning, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of clinical governance and policy projects
- Maintain accurate project documentation and reporting
- Ensure projects are delivered on time and within scope
- Develop presentations, educational resources, and communication materials
- Contribute content for newsletters, websites, and social media platforms
- Support responses to policy-related enquiries from stakeholders and the broader community
Lets talk about you!
You will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Public Policy, Health Administration, or a related field, along with 2 – 3 years’ experience in health policy, advocacy, project coordination, or a similar area. You will bring strong research, analytical, and problem-solving skills, along with excellent written and verbal communication abilities and the capability to translate complex policy information into clear, practical insights. You will be highly organised, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively, and have experience engaging with both internal and external stakeholders. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite is also required.
