What is Residential Youth Work?
Residential Youth Workers support children and young people who are unable to live safely at home.
Working alongside experienced care teams, you’ll help create a safe, supportive home while encouraging independence, confidence and life skills.
Every shift is different, but every shift is an opportunity to make a positive difference.
What You’ll Do
Responsibilities May Include:
Supporting daily routines and household activities
Preparing meals and maintaining a safe home
Transporting young people to school, appointments and activities
Encouraging education and community participation
Building professional, positive relationships
Following individual care plans

Yes. Eligible students completing a recognised qualification may be able to gain paid casual experience through HCA’s Kickstart Program while continuing their studies.
Qualification requirements vary by state and client. Roles typically require (or are supported by) qualifications in Youth Work, Community Services, Child, Youth & Family Intervention, Social Work, Psychology, Mental Health, Nursing or other related fields. You’ll also need the relevant state-based screening checks and compliance requirements.
Yes. Casual workers can nominate their availability through the eHCA app. Shift availability depends on client demand, your compliance and suitability for each placement.
Healthcare Australia provides structured onboarding, a dedicated Service Coordinator, ongoing supervision, wellbeing support and access to learning and development opportunities to help you succeed.
Residential services operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Depending on the service and your experience, opportunities may include morning, afternoon, evening, active night, sleepover and weekend shifts.
