Psychiatrist

Healthcare Australia (HCA) is a major provider of healthcare services across Australia, including allied health, primary care, recruitment, NDIS, care services, and training.

In December 2024, we began providing health, mental health, and wellbeing services across the onshore Immigration Detention network. Our team of nurses, general practitioners, and allied health professionals offer a range of healthcare services, including health assessments, chronic disease management, health promotion, wound management, immunizations, and other primary health interventions.  HCA also launched a 24/7 Virtual Care Centre (VCC), offering remote healthcare through telehealth and video consultations to enhance onsite care for detainees.

This role is 1 day per week, based on site at the Sydney Immigration Detention Centre located in Villawood.

As a Psychiatrist with Healthcare Australia, you will provide comprehensive psychiatric assessments, diagnoses, and treatment plans for individuals in immigration detention. Working across a diverse and complex patient cohort, you will play a key role in delivering high-quality, patient-centred mental health care.

You will collaborate closely with medical, nursing, and allied health professionals to ensure holistic and coordinated care. In addition, you will provide expert clinical advice and support to healthcare teams, helping to guide the management of psychiatric conditions and treatment options across the network.

This role also offers the opportunity to contribute to the ongoing development of mental health services through participation in education, training, and quality improvement initiatives. You will help ensure services are delivered in line with clinical governance frameworks, regulatory requirements, and organisational policies, supporting safe and effective outcomes for patients.

Let’s talk about you!

In this role you will be committed to delivering high-quality mental health care and bring experience from complex clinical environments. Experience in forensic, custodial, or immigration health settings is highly regarded but not essential.

You will be confident working with culturally diverse and trauma-affected populations, thrive in a multidisciplinary team environment, and be motivated by the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on patient outcomes while contributing to ongoing service development.

You’ll bring your passion for mental health and be rewarded with:

  • A chance to work within a well-respected Australian organisation with over 1000 employees, including doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals.
  • Salary packaging & novated leasing via Smartgroup
  • Birthday leave – this is your paid, special day off to celebrate, relax and make the most of your birthday!
  • Free onsite parking.
  • Working with us is not just about the opportunity to impact lives.  Together with our range of benefits, we make sure our people are cared for too!
