Healthcare Australia (HCA) is a major provider of healthcare services across Australia, including allied health, primary care, recruitment, NDIS, care services, and training.
In December 2024, we began providing health, mental health, and wellbeing services across the onshore Immigration Detention network. Our team of nurses, general practitioners, and allied health professionals offer a range of healthcare services, including health assessments, chronic disease management, health promotion, wound management, immunizations, and other primary health interventions. HCA also launched a 24/7 Virtual Care Centre (VCC), offering remote healthcare through telehealth and video consultations to enhance onsite care for detainees
As a Virtual Mental Health Clinician, you will conduct comprehensive mental health assessments, including risk and acuity evaluations, to determine appropriate care pathways. You will work closely with multidisciplinary teams to ensure clients are safely and efficiently connected to the right services and supports.
You will also provide brief therapeutic support, psychoeducation, and guidance to clients, particularly those experiencing distress or crisis, within a structured triage framework.
We are seeking a candidate who are available on a casual basis with flexibility across most weekdays and weekends, and are also open to the occasional requirement of working night shifts as needed.
To work within this role, you must either:
- Hold a postgraduate qualification in Mental Health with a minimum of 5 years’ MH specialty experience, or
- Have a minimum of 7 years’ specialist Mental Health nursing experience if they do not hold a postgraduate qualification.
Day to day!
- Conduct virtual mental health assessments, including risk and acuity screening
- Prioritise and triage clients based on urgency and clinical need
- Refer and coordinate care with psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and community services
- Provide brief mental health support, education, and coping strategies to clients
- Support clients in crisis and escalate care where required
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in line with regulatory and privacy requirements
- Collaborate with the Mental Health Team Leader and wider multidisciplinary team
- Contribute to continuous improvement through data collection and reporting
- Ensure compliance with all organisational policies, procedures, and professional standards
Lets talk about you!
You will hold a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and current unrestricted AHPRA registration, with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in clinical program management within a primary healthcare setting; experience in immigration detention or similar environments is highly desirable, along with demonstrated experience in Mental Health Nursing across intake, triage, or crisis intervention. You will also have strong proficiency in virtual care delivery, including telehealth platforms and electronic health record systems, excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive conversations and provide compassionate support, sound knowledge of mental health assessment, risk management and referral pathways, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a virtual care environment while managing multiple cases of varying urgency.
