Maternity Unit Manager

The Hospital

Regional Victoria’s largest private hospital located in the vibrant city of Geelong is seeking a Maternity Unit Manager. The hospital provides a comprehensive range of support services to the rapidly growing coastal city. The modern and up-to-date hospital has a 24/7 accident and emergency department, a comprehensive surgical program supported by a 12-bed critical/intensive care unit, and rapidly growing cardiology, medical, rehabilitation, and cancer services and maternity services with a special care nursery.

The Maternity Unit and team

Join a thriving hospital and maternity unit that has seen significant growth. The unit features a 32 bed department with a recent redevelopmnent, with ongoing updates to ensure state-of-the-art facilities. The Special Care Nursery includes 34 suites, providing specialized care for newborns who need extra attention.

The hospital maintains a strong focus on relationships, ensuring comprehensive support and collaboration.

They offer support seven days a week with an extensive paediatric program with a neonatal nurse practitioner providing a comprehensive service, alleviating any stress or concerns around neonatal safety.

The Position as the Maternity Unit Manager, your key responsibilities will be:

    • Responsible for the efficient and effective management of all staff, equipment, and department resources
    • Hands-on responsibility for planning, implementing and evaluating practices, processes, and services within the department.
    • Working closely with the executive team you will help shape organisational strategies and improve service provisions.
    • You will use current management practices and principles, and effective interpersonal and leadership skills when supervising and managing ward activities.
    • This role encompasses direct care to the ward patients, mentoring staff, and ensuring the smooth delivery of services in a fast-paced environment.

The successful candidate will have:

    • Strong clinical skill set gained in a hospital setting as a Midwife/Registered nurse
    • Well-developed leadership and communication skills, including negotiation and mediation, conflict resolution and problem-solving
    • High level of analytical and report writing skills with a strong focus on quality
    • A passion for mentoring junior team members
    • Registration with the Nurses and Midwives Board of Australia (AHPRA) as a Registered Nurse
    • Prior midwifery experience within hospital setting

You will have registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse/Registered Midwife with extensive contemporary management leadership experience in a Senior Nursing position in an Acute Hospital Facility.

To succeed, you will have the ability to build strong working relationships with maternity teams, medical practitioners, and other key stakeholders.
