Registered Nurse – AOD

Healthcare Australia (HCA) is a major provider of healthcare services across Australia, including allied health, primary care, recruitment, NDIS, care services, and training.

In December 2024, we began providing health, mental health, and wellbeing services across the onshore Immigration Detention network. Our team of nurses, general practitioners, and allied health professionals offer a range of healthcare services, including health assessments, chronic disease management, health promotion, wound management, immunizations, and other primary health interventions.  HCA also launched a 24/7 Virtual Care Centre (VCC), offering remote healthcare through telehealth and video consultations to enhance onsite care for detainees.

As an AOD Registered Nurse, you’ll play a critical role in delivering holistic, person-centred care within a multidisciplinary team environment.

In this role, you will:

  • Support detainees with alcohol and other drug dependency through comprehensive nursing assessment and care planning
  • Deliver evidence-based AOD nursing care, health promotion and medication administration
  • Work collaboratively with medical, nursing and allied health professionals to coordinate care
  • Contribute to case conferences, referrals and continuity of care pathways
  • Promote dignity, cultural respect and recovery-focused practice in all interactions

Let’s talk about you!

You’re a confident, compassionate and experienced Registered Nurse with a strong background in alcohol and other drug health. You bring a holistic approach to care, thrive in multidisciplinary teams, and are comfortable working in complex and dynamic environments. You have a strong understanding of evidence-based AOD practice, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work autonomously while maintaining high clinical and professional standards.

You’ll bring:

  • Current unrestricted AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse (Division 1)
  • Postgraduate qualification in Alcohol and Other Drugs at AQF Level 8 or higher and/or significant demonstrated AOD nursing experience
  • Minimum 5 years’ clinical experience delivering non-telehealth patient care in AOD or related settings (experience can be a combination of both, in-person and telehealth)
  • Strong assessment, care planning and clinical documentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • High level communication, critical thinking and problem-solving capability
  • Sound computer literacy and awareness of relevant legislation, standards and clinical guidelines

This is a rewarding opportunity to apply your AOD expertise in a meaningful role that supports recovery, dignity and improved health outcomes for people in detention—while being supported by a national healthcare organisation that values quality, safety and its people. (Part-time availability considered)
