About the role

Reporting directly to the Director of Clinical Services the Nurse Unit Manager is responsible for the management of people and financial resources, and the smooth running of the Rehabilitation & Palliative Care department.
Working alongside a team of multidisciplinary staff, and with patient care and customer service at the forefront, the Nurse Unit Manager is the representative of Calvary when dealing with external stakeholders including being an active member of the Palliative Care Committee. Utilising strong leadership in the promotion of clinical and operational strategies in line with Calvary`s vision and code of conduct.

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Management and oversight of staffing, staff schedules, leave, and overtime within labour hour target
  • Operational management of staff to ensure they are working within their scope of practice and relevant standards of practice 
  • Management of equipment, pharmacy, and consumables to ensure business and cost-efficiency
  • Management of staff competency and mandatory training within the department
  • Continual liaison and communication with all parties involved including Patients, families, GPs, and community organisations to ensure a smooth and continual Palliative Care service is delivered.
  • Provide people-centred leadership and professional role modelling.
  • Educate, support, and provide training for staff.

To be successful in the role you will have:

  • Bachelor of Nursing
  • Current AHPRA registration
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar role within a high dependency / Palliative Care role
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, regulatory requirements, professional standards, policies, and procedures
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • National Police and NDIS clearances
  • Flu vaccination and Covid vaccinations
