We advise entry-level disability support workers to complete a vocational qualification in disability or community services. The qualification may be a Certificate III in Individual Support (CHC33015) or a Certificate IV in Disability (CHC43115), which takes between 25-28 weeks to complete.
Workers must complete a police check before undergoing training. We also recommended that you have a First Aid Certificate before getting your disability certification. HCA’s First Aid course takes one day (8 hours) to complete.
While you don’t need a qualification to work in disability, we recommend that individuals (at the very least) complete our online learning courses before approaching employers to ensure they have the best chance of obtaining employment and exceeding in their careers.
Candidates who complete these online learning courses are more likely to gain employment than someone who hasn’t gained education or experience in the disability sector.
