6 Most Popular Rural & Remote Locations for Nurses & Midwives

Before I get into it, here’s a little bit about me.

I’m Alana and I am one of our National Rural and Remote Consultants working out of the Cairns office. On a daily basis I help nurses from all walks of life take on new working adventures in Rural and Remote Australian locations. I have worked for Healthcare Australia since October 2014.

I love my role and the amazing healthcare professionals I work with on a daily basis. There is no bigger thrill than getting that dream contract locked away for my nurses and it’s an absolute privilege to play such a pivotal part in my candidates’ careers.

Now that you know a little bit about me, we can dive into what I wanted to share with you!

Not many people are lucky enough to travel and explore our amazing country whilst they get paid. If you are a Nurse or Midwife, there really is no end to the amazing adventures you can take around Australia.

Don’t believe me? When I speak to a Nurse or Midwife for the first time I am always asked what positions are available, in which I will reply You tell me where you want to work and we’ll get you working there.

Perhaps you don’t know where you want to work and are looking for some inspiration? Let me start you on the right track and share with you 6 places I regularly send my candidates across Australia.

The Cocos Keeling Islands, a remote territory of Australia in the Indian Ocean. There are two clinics, one on Home Island and another on West Island. Torres Strait Islands and Cape York are located right up in Far North of Queensland. There are various primary health clinics in Cape York where we place experienced Remote Area Nurses or Registered Nurses with strong Emergency Skills. The Torres Strait Islands clinic seek highly experienced Remote Area Nurses (RIPRN endorsement is an advantage).

Thursday Island Hospital, lying just off of Cape York, has various positions available for a number of different skill-sets (Emergency, Midwifery, Theatre, and Renal). There are also a number of smaller hospitals and multipurpose health services located in this region.
