Balwin is one of our amazing physiotherapists in Melbourne. Originally from Malaysia, she relocated with her young family to Australia for a new adventure. We welcomed her into our team and a year on, she’s become an extremely valued member of our team with her bubbly personality.

What does a typical day look like at your facility?

I get into work early while the resident’s are having their breakfast. I do a morning walk around the facility to greet every resident, touch base with the team on any major updates, and then head to the PC for some care plans and paper work. I then start with certain resident’s that prefer to be seen in the morning, then we have a exercise group for our residents every morning in the common lounge. Here, we do everything from a color parachute, to clap-along and the residents love it!

What is your facility like?
We are a little family! All the team members work holistically with each other; it’s so lovely.

Almost 90% of our resident’s are Italian, we have such rich culture in the facility, with different celebrations, shows, songs and activities on going all the time. I have added on to the languages I speak by conversing with my residents in Italian (not that well, but I’ll eventually get there) – Lo Amo! 

What’s the biggest thing you’ve learned since working in aged care as a physiotherapist?

To live a life without regret, take chances, laugh more, forgive more, love more.. All the stories shared here are adventures they took and risk they took and how happy they are when they look back. It really puts things into perspective for you. We are sometimes so hung up on the what’s and if’s of life that we forget to just LIVE!

So to sum it up, what have I learned: BE HAPPY! Life is too unpredictable to be stressed over everything.
