Paul’s weekend away in Echuca with our Support Worker
Paul had a goal to go away for a weekend to Echuca to see the National Holden Motor Museum, go on a paddle streamer and have a good look around the town. With the support of HCA Home and one of our dedicated support workers Margaret Thomas, this has been achievable for Paul. Paul lives in an area that is quite remote as it is a small country town not accessible by public transport. He lives with his dad who is aging and is unable to attend things Paul wants to experience. The trip required planning on the logistics of accommodation, events, amount time needed, travelling, emergency plans and weather factors. This was achieved by Paul and his dad Collin working closely together with our HCA Home senior support coordinator Pam Hill, account manager Kristian Faul and support worker Margaret Thomas.
The trip was booked and the journey began. Paul and Margaret’s accommodation was at the Riverside Caravan Park Moama.
Paul has embraced the opportunities to go to other events out in the community since his supports have been provided by HCA Home such as ten pin bowling, car expos, catching public transport and even learning to cook, which is a goal that Paul and Collin had asked us to assist with. Since supports started with Paul in July 2017, he has been able to enjoy the changes that the NDIS and HCA Home have provided for him and his dad. One of Paul’s requirements was to always make sure that he got home from his community outings by 7.00pm as he is a big fan of Home and Away. Maybe in the future, we could plan a trip to Palm Beach were Home and Away is filmed, but for now Paul is planning his next adventure holiday to Swan Hill for a week in July. We are looking at what he can do while he is there and organise what there is to see such as the paddle streamers on the Murray River.
